07/15 w/Cory Martin
Initially missed this mountain, had to hike up to the summit after Ypslion. But had great weather!
Chiquita, Ypsilon, Chapin with Zach
August 16th, 1970, finished it September 2nd, 2015.
Took the best marmot picture of my life on the summit
Mt. Chapin was first out of three peaks from Chain Pass...
This was the first of three peaks on an incredibly beautiful September day. One of my favorite months to climb in Colorado.
First of 7!
Attemted Mummy Mania and made it as far as Chiquita before turning back due to winter-like winds up on the ridge.
Almost walked past it. Fairly straightforward and short hike.
Got turned back from Desolation again
Hiked Chiquita and Ypsilon a few years back with my little bro, but we skipped Mount Chapin. I (with our 4 year old on my back) and my wife (with our 1 year old on her back) trudged up this pleasant trail/talus hop to the beautiful summit of Mount Chapin this time. My childrens' first mountain summit, it feels good to pass on my love of the high mountains to my kids.
Wonderful hike and a terrific afternoon with amazing views and lots of wildlife. On top of Chapin be sure to head back west and look down at the spires. Be careful not to descend to much on the way back from Ypsilon in order to pick up the trail between Chiquita and Chapin.
Peak 1 of 8, did a variation of "Mummy Mania" we dubbed "Mummy Masochism" because we tacked 2 bushwhack 11ers on to the end. Appx 19 miles, 7000 vertical - climbed Chapin, Chiquita, Ypsilon, Fairchild, Hagues, Mummy, Tileston and Bighorn.
Just climbed Chapin b/c we were short on time, but a good reminder that I am really fat and out of shape. Altitude kicked my butt since I had only been in Estes for a day
Went right past it on the way up and didn't realize it until I was on Chiquita. Tagged it on the way back down.
