It was a clear day and the view from the summit was really spectacular.
The weather held out for a nice climb to the summit. Extremely windy on top! Headed to the Galehead Hut for the night. Great views!
Southbound thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Climbed with Galehead via the Garfield Trail from Gale River Road. Beautiful trail leading up to Garfield's rocky and exposed summit. Great views of the Franconias, Twins and of the greater Pemigewasset Wilderness.
Moderate snowpack and the regular freezing and thawing made the steep ascent fun but exciting. Enjoyed a chance to use the crampons in late May.
There was still some snow on the higher elevations. It was not a nice well packed down snow either, making things interesting. This was my 20th NH 4000er.
Climbed with wife at end of our hut to hut trip from Madison Springs to Greenleaf huts
I really don't remember Garfield specifically, but since it's along the Appalachian Trail I must've hiked up it.
Very nice hike. Camped at the Garfield Ridge campsite on my way to Galehead.
Came from the north and stayed at tentsites.
Climbed it as part of a four day Pemmi wilderness traverse from Lincoln woods to Crawford notch. This was the first peak of the trip of the trip where the summit wasn't foggy.
great day, great hike
great hike of the garfeild/franconia ridges
Drove in part way, had to push jeep out on return
Wanted to continue on to Galehead, but thunder and a raging heel made the decision for me.
Day one of the Fanconia to Pinkham Hike. In the clouds and raining. Brutal trail.
Garfield is an amazing summit to me ~ being able to look over and see Lafayette, Lincoln and Little Haystack looming in the distance. I had a clear day with spectacular views on the 4th day of our 5 day adventure. We stopped for over an hour on Garfield and had lunch. As promised, I said hello to my friends "Uncle John" whose ashes had been scattered there years ago.
A fine day, made it to the shelter just in time to avoid hail and snow.
Hiked Garfield in conjunction with Lafayette many years ago. Was unprepared for a freak snow 'storm' in June and got pretty cold!
A side trip off the Pemi ring backpack. Nice steep climb with hard-crusted snow. Great views on top and a nice rock shelter.
