Nice trail to the top from the east... it's heading west that I blundered and took a scree slope down instead of the trail that was just past some bushes... Great solitude and desert views, though.
After a Baldy summit/sunburn nap, felt sufficiently rested to tick this off on the way back.
With Mount San Antonio, Devils Backbone, Thunder Mountain & Gold Ridge.
Hiked up via Devil's Backbone and summitted Harwood on the way to Baldy in hot, dry, breezy weather. Then summitted Baldy and returned to Manker Flats via the Ski Hut Trail. This was my third summit of Baldy and first up Harwood.
Up Baldy Bowl down Manker Canyon in slush snow.
Visited this minor summit on the way back from San Antonio.
Popped over here on the way back from Baldy
Great side peak on the way back from Baldy. Did with Josh Lewis.
Nice day to tag a few So Cal peaks.
I climbed it on the way back from Baldy and found the summit more interesting than Baldy's. It also provides a few minutes of solitude away from the Baldy hordes.
Bonus bump on the way to Mount San Antonio.
We bagged it on the way down from Baldy..
Manker Flats to Baldy, West Baldy, Harwood and back over to Thunder Mtn and back down to Manker Flats at 1:30.
with Thunder Mountain.
Hiked to the top of Baldy, then took the Devil's Backbone trail down to the saddle between Harwood and Baldy. Took a use trail up to Harwood, then hiked down the scree slope back to the Devil's Backbone trail.
I did this one with my brothers Guy and Eric on our way up Mt. Baldy.
First time on Register Ridge Trail to Mt. Harwood, then on to Baldy (4th time), West Baldy (1st time), and down the Ski Hut Trail to Manker Flats.
Link up of Baldy and Harwood via Devil's Backbone in what is likely the last of the spring snow. Although there was a large crowd on Baldy, I had Harwood to myself and was the first person in 8 days to sign the register.
Drove down from the Bay Area for a conference in Palm Springs - after visiting the downtown LA library I drove up to Manker Flat and hiked up to the ski lodge and took the Devil's Backbone trail up to Baldy with a side visit to West Baldy and Harwood on a fine afternoon. Barely any snow to be found anywhere, and none on the trail. Trip report is HERE.
Using this route in the cold season is unusual, but due to the extremely dry winter it was possible to do almost the entire Register Ridge in hiking boots. The top had snow, as did the Harwood summit. Almost blown off by the strong winds.
