An enjoyable first time to the summit of a Helena area staple.
Hit with COVID the week before, climbing Helena provided a welcome sign of recovery. The mountain has an interestingly diverse but at times bewildering set of trails and starting points. We discovered this the next day when we started up the mountain from a less-used trailhead, which afforded quite different perspectives and surroundings than the earlier hike.
I last summitted using the Prairie Trail. It was pretty easy, but the switchbacks can get a bit strenuous at times. The trails are well maintained and the mountain offers wonderful views of the valley and surrounding mountains.
Ive been up this just hiking or rock climbing countless times since moving to Helena in 2015. One of my favourite places to catch sunrise in the winter.
Biked to the top via Helena Ridge Trail. Awesome riding and great views. Make sure to respect the hikers and slow down for them.
Went to Sunset Slab.
