Climbed via the south ridge as part of a three summit day following Tamarack and Relay Peak. The entire valley and slopes east of the Relay/Houghton is still in deep snow conditions so I gained the ridge by climbing straight up from the tram station to the low point on the Ridge North of the radio tower. There was little snow left on the south ridge of Houghton, the use trail was obvious, class 1
Hiked in with my buddy Doug. Some snow up high, but nothing dangerous. Walked up the road to the lift, then over land hiked.
Came down the slope since it was stable with a few inches of snow..
Snowshoed up from Mt. Rose Trailhead on a snowy day. Nice views of Tahoe before storm moved in. Have maps and a good idea of the route because in deep snow it was slow going.
With Relay Peak, that make 4 for the day.
With meetup group.
Fun day of hiking, from Mt. Rose summit took the Relay Road, cross country from due south of Tamarack, up and over the peak, back down to Relay Road, up to Relay Peak where I scrambled up the last 300 feet rather than walking the road, then took the new trail to Mt. Houghton, then cross country down from Houghton to the saddle with Mt. Rose, picked up the Mt. Rose trail here, took that until it was time for the easy cross country to Church Peak, then rejoined the Mt. Rose trail to the summit of Mt. Rose. Took the Mt. Rose trail all the way back down. TR will be posted HERE.
Cold morning snowshoe with nearby Tamarack Peak. This was my first trip to this nice area.
Picked off Relay first then headed over to Houghton, took a stupid way down from there but ended up finding a decent chute to get me back down on to the Rose trail.

Ski to the summit. Broke my binding and had to ski on a field repair and do some boot hiking.
A brief stop on the way from Church to Relay.
Hiked with my brother-in-law to Relay also, did Tamarack also. About a foot of very dry snow. Some nice ridges and views to the West and NW,
Traversed from Relay's summit. Icy conditions the whole way. 4 hours C2C.
Snowshoe trip with Tamarack and Relay. Hot and sunny all day.
but they day was getting a bit late so returned to the powerline run and got out....damn those 11 o'clock alpine starts...
Very windy day. Can't wait to hit some of the chutes off the S Ridge with my splitboard!
Nice easy hike up to the top and back along the relay rd. Great Views
Nice snowshoe outing with Relay Peak and Mt. Rose. Trip Report
The Bronco Chutes abound!
Use trail well defined. Nice to hike solo away from the gobs of peeps on Relay and Rose today.
