Climbed with family in 2010. It's got a lot going for it for a Southern mountain, and I think that Cliff Tops has the most stunning view in the park. I'm glad there's not a road to the top.

Post Hurricane Snow
First hike with my fiance after proposing the day before in Asheville. Took Alum Cave Trail after a hurricane rolled through and dumped snow on the upper half of the mountain. Weather was solid for the hike and the snow made things a little more interesting than they would have otherwise been.

Alum Caves
This was one of my first real hikes. Great day, met a lot of fun people along the way. From the peak it's worth going out to the two endpoints, adds a mile or so, but not a lot of gain and great views over the actual peak.

Great peak, Alum Trail!
I love Mt Leconte. It's the real fun peak to hike in the Nat'l Park. Though it can be crowded, i've hiked it using a couple different trails. This day we took the popular Alum Trail. Great weather again, i'll never complain when in the Smokies....

Great Training Mountain
LeConte is an awesome mountain for training for other climbs. I used it to training for Kilimanjaro and for the rockies. I climbed the Rainbow Falls trail on LeConte 5 straight days on the second week of July as my final test for Kilimanjaro.

Alum Cave Trail
The rhododendrons along the way were incredible. It was like hiking in an aerial garden.

Beautiful Fall Day
Great hike via Alum Cave Trail, and one of the best mountains I've climbed in the southeast. Loved it!

LeConte Loop
Up the Boulevard Trail, down the Alum Cave Trail. The hike affords spectacular views of the Great Smokies.
My first try was on the Trillium Gap Trail in May 2006, when I was forced back by thunderstorms. The rangers told me that current road closures would add about 5 miles to the Trillium Gap hike. So I decided on the Alum Cave Trail.
Yesterday was a gorgeous day in the Smokies. It was a great hike to LeConte Lodge and then on to the true summit and Cliff Tops. I hope to stay at the Lodge sometime in the future.

Route: Alum CaveHiked in fog until descent. Trail was wet but we managed in trail runners. Couldn't believe the foot traffic going back down.
