smoky  Sucess!

This is quite a grind of a hike. Minimal scrambling but some loose rock to deal with. The dragon back feature is interesting. Unfortunatley, most of the views were obscured by smoke.

Route Climbed: Northwest side from the golf course   Sucess!

Nice climb with a short approach. Got extremely windy near the top, but the views were magnificent!!

Such a beauty  Sucess!

Superb scramble. It was drizzling on top, making it very slippery. With frozen hands and strong wind pushing me around, it was scary to stand close to that cliff, but the view was worth it! What a plunge!

Too much time in the trees  Sucess!

Too much of this scramble takes place in the trees, and I forgot to bring insect repellent, which led to over 20 mosquito bites from the trip.

That said, it's quite nice once you get past tree line. Ran into a party of three youngsters who were having some difficulties going down the narrowest section of the Dragon's Back. (It's not that narrow, but I think this was their first time)

Didn't spend too much time on the summit. It looked like rain would be coming in, and those slabs can get really slippery when wet.

Scramble Route  Sucess!

Beautiful sunny day! Perfect day for a hike. No clouds in sight. Nice view of Mount Assiniboine from the summit. It was very windy up top. Been wanting to get up Rundle for a long time.

Normal route  Sucess!

More of a hike than a scramble. Weather threatened most of the day, but never did anything more than blow up high. Huge difference in effective temperature between parking lot and summit!

Standard Route  Sucess!

First rockies scramble if it even qualifies. One of the hottest days during the summer.

Scramble  Sucess!

My first true Rockies scramble. Loved it despite the amount of loose scree on the upper mountain.

Normal route  Sucess!

This was supposed to be my warm-up hike for bigger scrambles in the coming days. Being weak from a nasty cold, it was tougher than expected. Technically not difficult but the sun and the steep slippery slope made for a rough day; it is still 5k+ of gain in about 3.5mi. Going off-route or slipping in the wrong spot could have serious consequences. Other than that, great day with clear views!

Scramble Route  Sucess!

On Rundle, I was torched by the sun and it darn near destroyed one of my knees. Mostly just a steep, long hike up rubble. The scree at the top is deep and excellent for skiing down.

Wonderful Day Hike  Sucess!

Beautiful day hike and views. I second William's statement about a training mountain.

Can't Beat Limestone  Sucess!

Blitzed up the Dragon's Back on a windy day. The scree was terrible, but scrambling up the cliffs beneath the summit block actually provided better climbing. My first Canadian peak, made super easy by Colorado legs and lungs.

normal scramble  Sucess!

The trail in the forest was nice and well defined. Got steeper on "dragons back" and then it was slabs with loose rubble over it. The last stretch to summit consist of backsliding scree which took me almost an hour to get up(10 mins to get down though). Technically it was very easy but it was a long day for me. It was a bit cloudy so we couldn't see very far in all directions but decent view from above.

My climb on Mt. Rundle was quite circumstantial. I had originally intended to hike to the Cascade Amphitheater, however, a sign was posted saying that a momma Grizzly with 2 cubs had been spotted demonstrating protective behavior. Quick mental scrambling to save the day brought me to Mt. Rundle. It was just around noon before I made it to the trailhead. I managed to get above the treeline...around 2400 meters or so...however, it was getting late and the wind was wicked so I turned around.

Very windy at the summit had to hunker down behind the rock wall near the summit. You could be blown off if not careful. Excellent switch back trail. Great for conditioning and mountain training.
