Quick day hike up to the summit with perfect weather a few days before attempting Rainier.

Beautiful Day!
Monitor Ridge. Got our permit via the lottery in Jan/Feb.
Started at 5:45 a.m., by time out of woods we were in clouds a bit, but they burned off quickly. Stellar views of Adams & Hood & Jefferson during ascent, great view of Rainier from summit.
Only 3 other people besides myself traversed the rim to the true summit which surprised me.
Up in 5 hours, down in 3.
One note is that gloves may not be necessary; we brought but did not use them. YMMV.
We brought almost 200 oz of water each and drank almost all of it -- would have done if it were as hot as at had been earlier in the week.

Worm Flows
Skinned until I wasn't getting good purchase even with ski crampons. Put the skis on my pack and booted up from there. Fun walk over to the true summit and a great run all the way back down.

Last weekend in the PNW
Climbed via the worm flows route with Maddie. It was the sunniest and warmest day of the year so far, which made for a slushy descent. Views up top were worth it though. Now off to the desert again!

I underestimated both how hard this would be, and how much I'd enjoy it. It was awesome. Trip report here.

Great Outing! First snow climb for Michelle and I. Boots and crampons felt great. Summited in 5:30 hours, 8:45 hours car to car. Deep snow for the entirety.

A much shorter trip down
Hauled the Lib Tech to the top, which took way too long, but I think we made it from the summit to the car in about 45 minutes. The snow was pretty good, especially at the top. Smooth and fresh cascade June "powder". 1997 was a good year.

Quick trip
Climbed too quick and too early, waited around from 4:30 until daylight approximately 300ft below the crater cornice. Socked in summit, great glissading and break in between the clouds.
Climbed this mountain with a torn ACL. It sucked limping up and down. But cool place.

Winter Route
Beautiful Day

Dressed for success
Via Worm Flows (winter route). Patchy snow started ~3 miles from Marble Mtn Sno-Park lot. Day started overcast & misty, then gusty winds. Eventually, clear blue sky and perfect temperatures for climbing. Obvious evidence of recent large slides, but excellent snow consolidation. A plethora of glissade trenches beckoned, but most were too soft to be usable, making descent VERY slow. Great Mother's Day for our party of 3 (Lovell Travis, Jared McCaleb (age 13; his first climb) and I.

Mother's Day weekend, in a dress
From Marble Mtn campground, hiked up carrying skis on back to the weather tower on Monitor Ridge, skinned up the rest to climber's right. Hung out up top in a purty dress for a hour or so, then had some awesome spring turns down the Worm Flows on the way out. Gorgeous weather (almost too hot), tons of people, but fun

Great Success
Cale & I left the parking lot mid-morning, smooth uneventful skin up, skied down to the setting sun, hiked out the icy single-track in the dark. Just a few other folks out there that day.
