My absolute favorite place !  Sucess!

We took Devil's Backbone all the way up and then the Ski hut trail down. The last one is my absolute favorite in the winter.

Many visits, just one sign in  Sucess!

I've done this peak too many times to even count but I better sign it in just once. Summit registers shouldn't be this easy to reach :) Love this peak, trying not to wear it out. My favorite route is via the lifts but camping at the top is pretty amazing too.

Many times

I cannot say how many times I climbed this mountain since 2009.I even hiked it with a broken leg! On December 21, 2012 I broke my left fibula on the way down. I had to go down like that for 3 and a half miles in the dark. Kind of a clothes cleaned the trail. That was the longest hike of my life! The nice part of the story is the big full Moon. It was a big full Moon. I'll always remember Mount Baldy!

Too many people  Sucess!

It's sort of a given that there would be a lot of people here but it was just too much...

First Summit (via Ski Hut Trail)  Sucess!

Was I successful? Well, I survived at least. I could not find the trail above the Ski Hut, so wound up plowing straight up the right side of the Baldy Bowl through loose scree the whole way. Luckily I managed to come out right on target and didn't die before reaching the summit. I did run out of water, however, while hiking down the ski lift maintenance road to Manker Flats TH, but had a chilled bottle of water waiting for me in the car. It was a Thursday, so the lift was closed, and there was nobody at the Notch to help with water.

Ski Hut Trail  Sucess!

Car camped at Manker Flat. Dinner at Mt. Baldy Lodge. Big crowds on Mount Baldy but never a problem.

Great Place  Sucess!

I've been up twice, once during a dry January and again the same Summer. Lovely hiking, with some amazing flora and fauna. Watch for bighorns!

Ski Hut Route up, Devils Backbone back; one of my favorite hikes!

Sunset Hike: Manker Loop (Ski Hut to Backbone).  Sucess!

Ski Hut is 100% snow free all the way up. A few patches of snow off the north of the summit can be used to replenish water supply>

Still breezy and cool. Perfect hiking weather. Cold at night.

The Pleiades and Orion guarded the west while Ares and The Lion domineered the east. Love the stars...

Link up of Baldy and Harwood via Devil's Backbone in what is likely the last of the spring snow.

From Manker Flat  Sucess!

Drove down from the Bay Area for a conference in Palm Springs - after visiting the downtown LA library I drove up to Manker Flat and hiked up to the ski lodge and took the Devil's Backbone trail up to Baldy with a side visit to West Baldy and Harwood on a fine afternoon. Barely any snow to be found anywhere, and none on the trail. Trip report is HERE.
