Lots of Routes
This was my 9th ascent of Shavano. Standard route this time. Lourdes made it to the saddle; which was great. I can still think of more routes that I want to do.

Shavano Group Loop
Ascended Jones first than continued the loop to PT 13712, Tabeguache, Shavano and "Esprit Point". Some fun easy scrambling between Jones and PT 13712. Surprising dry in this part of the Sawatch still despite recent snows in the state. Shavano is mostly dry with just a little snow below the saddle with "Esprit Point". This was my 3rd ascent of Shavano.

Shavano - Southeast Slopes from Angel Campground
Shavano from Angel of Shavano Campground... nice to start out with some creative route finding. Not nice when the storms rolled and weren't able to complete the double with Tabeguache. Came down via Gulch trialhead trail and CO Trail back to Angel. Lots of sheep up in them hills.

Great Climb
Did the Angel of Shavano Snow climb. Still some snow left. Traversed to Tab. and came back down by glissading. It's quite a good workout.

4 times
6/12/05 - Standard route from Blank Gulch. Horrible weather (wind & snow) up high kept us from going on to Tabeguache. A real battle!
9/9/06 - Standard route from Blank Gulch. Went up and over Shavano to get to Tabeguache - my final Colorado 14er!
3/14/09 - Winter ascent from Angel of Shavano TH. Went up and over "Esprit Point".

I have summited Shavano 3 times now. This time I simply followed the standard trail from the Blank Gulch trailhead. Previous times, I summited via the Angel of Shavano.

Shavano-Tabeguache
Started from Blank Gulch. Climbed Mount Shavano first then traversed to Tabeguache Peak. Went back crossing W face of Shavano on unstable talus and loose scree escaping bad weather ... Definitely NOT a good alternative to going back over Shavano's summit. Overall: good hike, great views.

loss of virginity
Lost my CO 14er virginity on Mt. Shavano 2 days after arriving in Colorado for my permanent move here. Finally reconnected with my Aconcagua partner and good friend Dirk for a fun-filled extravaganza week. We went from Blank Gulch trailhead; very windy on summit. On the way down we saw 5-10 bighorn sheep (~10,000 ft.) and able to get fairly close for pictures. Very cool. Headed into Buena Vista for some outstanding mushroom burgers and then to Cottonwood hot springs. Bivied in the nearby national forest, with so many stars and satellites.

A mind-altering experience...
Did with Eric, from Blank Gulch. Beautiful day up there, although the forest fire a couple drainages down was strange. Mind-blowing descent. We saw some bighorn sheep, which was very cool.
