Mount Sniffel and Point 11,962

Mount Sniffel and Point 11,962

Seen from Chief Mountain. Sniffel, so imposing from the Kirwin site, is the pointed summit a little left of center. It is really just the end of the north ridge of Point 11,962, which is behind and above Sniffel here. One can make a loop via East Fork Pass and the pass at the head of Cascade Creek and climb this peak en route. East Fork Pass is actually visible to the right; look for what appears to be a snow-filled couloir and then look just above it, for that is the pass, and this gives you an idea of how steep the final approach to the pass is.
