Standard Route  Sucess!

I parked at the wilderness kiosk as the road beyond that was pretty eroded and rocky, it wasn't worth it. I followed the wash up to the saddle and then up the slope to the ridge. I hit a lot of brush on my way up but on my descent I was able to dodge a lot of brush. Views at the top were outstanding!

std route from locked gate  Sucess!

Hiked this one with Anji Cerney. Substantial amount of snow near the top. Beautiful weather.

2nd Ascent  Sucess!

Parked at the locked gate. Hiked up the closed road for a mile, then dropped into the right hand channel of the large wash. I stayed in this channel all the way to a small saddle at approximately 5300', turned left, and took the crest of the ridge all the way to the summit. Although I couldn't avoid it completely, I had a relatively brush free day, Highlights of the trip include the largest horned lizard I've ever seen, about 5" long, found at 6,990' of elevation, and later, I nearly stepped on a rattle snake. He gave me a friendly rattle as I leaped away from him!

Blech  Sucess!

A desert brush sampler, from cholla and yucca, to mesquite and cat-claw, to oak brush, to manzanita. Still, decent views, and it broke up a long drive.

West Ridge  Sucess!

A little brushy, but not too bad. Nice temperature and no snow. Overall, a pretty forgetable climb.

Slight variation  Sucess!

Eva ,Steve and I took a more direct approach which had its brushy places but once on the ridge had some very nice climbing.

Bushwack  Sucess!

We went up the wash to the saddle, but over shot it somehow and ended up on the bushwack ridge from hell. We eventually made the main ridge line and it was easy going after that. Steep, but free of brush. I saw Eric Tipton's entry in the register, and several other of the usual suspects there. Great fun. We went down the "right" way and only hit brush between the wash and the old road. (Party of three from LVMC). We had climbed Perkins earlier in the day.

Plenty of snow  Sucess!

Some of the roughest brush I've ever done.Got away from the standard route which was a big mistake.
Plenty of snow on the last 600 ft.

North Ridge  Sucess!

Ended up on the ridge to the north of the peak rather than the standard DPS approach. This made for a longer and more tedious day than was probably necessary. (Descended via the gully below this ridge- which was also long and tedious)

Pics and commentary are here.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Easier than expected, not so brushy as advertised. Hazy views that day though. Trip Report

Mount Tipton  Sucess!

I've always wanted to try one of these in the dead of summer. Carried over a gallon of water and needed most of it! The route is pretty straight-forward and the brush is not bad by AZ standards. The views were ridiculously good the whole day. Loved the pine forest on top - great day.

Nicer than expected  Sucess!

Took the normal DPS route. Brush wasn't that bad (by Adirondack standards), much better than on Kingston. The pictures here so far don't do the mountain justice -- very pleasant, and the views to S and W are quite nice.

Last 1.5 miles of "2WD" road have deteriorated quite a bit since the last DPS guide.

Route Climbed: west ridge Date Climbed: Dec05  Sucess!

Nice granite crags and tall pines near the summit. Despite the cross-country sloggy approach, only 4 1/2 hours car-to-car.

Did Fortification Hill that afternoon.
