Mount Toc (Vajont landslide)

This is one of the biggest landslides of the world. It happened in 1963 but still today the vegetation can't hide this scar. More than 250 milions of cubic meters of rock dropped down at 100 km/h in the Vajont Lake creating a 200 meters high tsunami which killed 2000 people in the Piave valley (at the right of Toc in this photograph). The dam is still here but now it contains a lake of rock. In the bottom-right corner of this image you can see the top of the dam, just 60 meters over the debris. On its other side the dam is visible in all its height of 260 meters.
