Tuk  Sucess!

I hiked Tukuhnikivatz after easily bagging Haystack the previous day. The new trail (completed in 2015) from La Sal Pass makes this a pretty nice and easy hike. I actually drove to the end of the 4WD road (shown as 4725 on the USGS topo) and hiked from there to the trail, which shaved nearly a mile and 200' elevation gain/loss of the hike. The switchbacks had a quite reasonable grade. The talus was a little loose in places and made for very tedious going. I spent quite a bit of time on the summit, just enjoying the views and the 4G Verizon signal. :) I only saw seven others on the trail, of of whom didn't summit bit instead turned back at the top end of the switchbacks. I was back at my Jeep before noon and headed straight home.

Definitely the better mountain of the two  Sucess!

Only two hours and ten minutes from La Sal pass. The trail was well laid out with switchbacks that take you directly to the ridge. From there I headed off to Mt Peale.

Middle La Sal Traverse  Sucess!

Climbed up from Gold Basin then crossed the Fang to Mt. Peale before descending the ridge NW of Mt. Mel back to the car.

Took a video of the trip with my GoPro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tcZgkeh8ds

Plan B Peak  Sucess!

Did this in conjunction with Peale as a backup plan to a rained out CO 14ers trip. Started at Peale and came across going under the fang. Beautiful looking out onto the red desert lands of the southwest....

Lots of snow!  Sucess!

4WD thru 8 inches of snow to get to Winter Sports Trailhead. Hiked up road and thru Gold Basin and climbed North Ridge of Tukuhnikivatz. Headed over to Peale and climbed thru The Razor Fang. A rope was nice to have with all the new snow. Skirted the base of Laurel and back down a low angle ridge to join with road. Great day always below 20 degrees. Nice to have axe and crampons.

Third Times a Charm  Sucess!

Via La Sal Pass trailhead. Ascended with the mighty warrior, Chip. Wish it wouldn't have been so hazy, still a great view though!

From Peale  Sucess!

Nicer views than Peale. Also much more fun climbing, as the hideous loose talus was mostly snow-covered. Trip report.

Happy Pioneer Day  Sucess!

Comboed it with Peale and Mellenthin. Did Peale in 1 hr 15 mins, Mellenthin in 1 hr 15 mins from the top of Peale, and then had to skirt around the south of the Razor Fang to get to Tuk. Did it from Mellenthin in about 2 hours. Tuk was the most organized pile of rocks of the three. But STEEP! Total trip stats was 9.49 miles. Did it in 4 hrs 52 mins. Avg speed of 1.9 mph. Did 5,078' of elevation gain. And 5,146' of descent. It was a great way to spend Pioneer Day.

wind.  Sucess!

I climbed on an incredibly windy day. I didn't escape the wind, but I did leave Moab's dust behind. And I got to hike the ridge while leaning 30 degrees off vertical to my left.

One of My Favorites  Sucess!

Finally climbed it after years of staring up at this beautiful peak from the canyonlands below. Traversed over to Peale afterwards...

Tuk, Peale, Mellenthin  Sucess!

Started from Gold Basin. Climbed Little Tuk, Tuk, Peale, Laurel, and Mellenthin and then returned via Laurel's west ridge. I think I picked the worst possible way up Little Tuk. From afar the slopes look wide open but I managed to find the only dense stand of trees around and had to bulldoze my way through.

Peale/Tuk  Sucess!

Had a wonderful time in the wilderness today on these two peaks. The best part was the time when the rotten rock of the razor fang tried to eat me.

Awesome Climb  Sucess!

Climbed from Gold Basin via Little Tuk. Great climb with excellent weather. Hit Little Tuk on way up and down. Loose talus/scree was a challenge on the way down
