On the way to wheeler peak didn't know Walter existed until on top of him. Stopped for awhile to talk to folks there.
Practically ran from Wheeler to Walter to summit before the approaching storm hit. Snapped a couple of pictures, and then it was down the mountain as fast as I could move!
I took the Williams Lake trail but made a short detour to the summit on the way back from Wheeler. Yeah Walter!
A short walk from Wheeler Peak but I actually liked the summit better.
on the way to wheeler. seemed a lil rockier around the top
Yeah Walter has a nice side show going on, but wheeler takes the cake!
Originally thought it was Wheeler.
Came up Williams Lake trail. Headed over to Wheeler, then on the way down stopped by. Its a shame this only gets climbed by proxy to Wheeler.
Visited Walter's summit several times in all seasons on the way to and from Wheeler. Great view!
Hit this one on the way up to Wheeler Peak. There is still quite a bit of snow on the way up the Bull of the Woods trail.
yep, was on the way to Wheeler...and Walter was there. Most mountaineers started because something "was there." So it's ok that Mt. Walter was there...i enjoyed it as much as Wheeler.
Williams Lake basin and surrounding peaks have to be my favorite area of New Mexico.
On my way up to Wheeler Peak.
Awesome hike. I kinda like the views from Walter more than Wheeler. But if you're going to go that high, why not go to Wheeler? Pics
It was a beautiful morning on my way to Wheeler Peak. Mt. Walter received a dusting of snow the night before we hiked up. Took Bull Of The Woods route up and down. Spent a night in La Cal Basin.
Ascended via Bull of the Woods. It rained from the TH to La Cal Basin. It was clear and the summit was windy. I guess I summitted twice, once going and once coming.
in the rain. . .
Went over this on the way to Wheeler Peak.
Climbed the ridge from Kachina all the way to Wheeler. We hit Kachina Peak...An unnamed peak, Lake Fork Peak, "Bighorn Peak",Pt 12,728, Simpson, Old Mike, Wheeler, and then Walter. Started at 7:20am and then finished at 5:30. We started at the Williams Lake Trailhead. Amazing day! The weather somehow cooperated with us the whole time. Very fun traverse. Saw lots of Elk, Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Goats. SO MUCH FUN!!
