This mountain rises sharply 1500 feet above the pond by the same name so rises more than Gavilan Peak, Arizona. It is a sight that Herny would have seen, north of Fitchburg, in the story "Henry Goes to Fitchburg" a parable of a trip by H. D. Thoreau
