Solo and Snow
Started out at 3:30 a.m. Main Whitney Trailhead. GPS read 15.8 miles round trip gaining over 6100 vertical to the top. I was thankful for the mileage I could cut off with the snow level starting at 9500. Whitney is one of my favorites. The snow chute from 12,000 to 13,500 definately made it feel like mountaineering to me. Loved every minute of the 14.5 hours it took. Next time I hope to find partners that won't bail on me.

Mount Whitney
Started from Cottonwood Pass Trailhead on 7/1/10 at about 3:43PM. Arrived at camp at 40.81161N / 110.36903W at 7:34PM.
Started for Mount Whitney on 7/3 at about 8:36AM. Summited Mount Whitney at 1:22PM. The entire day was clear & cool. Began descent from Mount Whitney at 2:00PM. Left camp on 7/5 at about 7AM. Arrived at Cottonwood Pass Trailhead at 11:07AM
First time was in grade school up the trail. Followed by an ill-fated attempt on east face. Last two attempts were successful via the Mountaineers Route.

Mountaineer's Route
3-day trip with the CAC. My 5th time on top (2x summer trail, 1x spring trail/snow, 2x winter MR)
Via Mountaineer's Route. Clear conditions after a brief storm on Saturday, but very windy. The first pitch of the final 400ft is rock/mixed right now, while the rest is fairly deep snow under a crust.
Most Technical summit to date via Mountaineer's Route! Felt like summer in the afternoons and the dead of winter in the mornings. A 1 night trip, camping at the very frozen over Iceberg lake.
Great hike. Started out at 3:30 AM for this beast!

altitude
After only 3 hrs sleep, I started my solo day hike at 8:30am (late) Had to turn back at trail crest due to incoming thunderstorms and also the altitude was getting to me. Plan on going back this summer. AWESOME TIME!!

Whitney Traverse
Climbed from the backside (started from horseshoe meadows). Summited. Then descended the Mountaineer's Route, on snow all the way down to Iceberg Lake. Did not disappoint!

#30 & #100
Hiked up the main trail with Richard Piotrowski. This was Richard's 100th and my 30th.
I did Whitney as an end to my traverse of the JMT in fall. I slogged through a blizzard up Forester Pass the previous day and it was pretty much all melted by the time I summitted Whitney the following evening. I slept in the hut atop, but before you call me stupid, there was zero lightning danger. I spent the whole next day walking down with my through-hiker's pack -ouch.

Mountaineer
Kind of a slog. The last 400 feet was quite steep for Class 3. Nobody on the summit but me. Quite a view.

Worthy alpine
East Face, East Buttress, Moutaineers route are perfect and classic. Would repeat Whitney any time. Winter ascent?
Looking to do JMT - this summer - debating on August or End of June - How was the weather in Aug? Also - Do you have your daily log of miles?? We're looking to do it in under 14 days - Any good camp sites you'd recommend? Thanks!

Great hike in great weather. Camped at Consultation Lake to avoid the crowds. Nice to be able to make the top after snow turned us around at Trail Camp last year.
