Nice route for a quickie  Sucess!

Good with limited time or if there's an imposing storm over the tri-canyon area

Pioneer TH  Sucess!

Climbed many times, including 11-26-10, 02-19-11, 03-08-11 and 04-30-11 (#9). Snow, ice, mud, etc. Once climbed it 4 times in a row with Zeejay, Scott W. and Matt VH. #? W/Lana. 04-11-20. 1+22 up. #20 04-22-209 W/ Yadahzoemtn. Arbitrarily picked #20 'cause I really don't know how many times except that it's been a bunch. We did our first trek to Red Butte for the loop descent route. #21 12-19-20 W/ Lana 1+30 up, snow packed trail all the way up.

Wire Loop  Sucess!

Straight up from the zoo and then down through George's Hollow (by the "Living Room"). Just over 5 miles.

Geocache hike  Sucess!

This was my second hike to the top of this one, coming up from the Heritage park trail and descending via the Georges Hollow trail. A string of great hiking geocaches is located along the trail and makes it a bit more fun if you are interested in that activity. By the time I got back to my truck, I had found 17 and my friend Gerry and added 12 new ones to his collection. We had great weather and found the trail down to be really busy on a saturday in May.

Red Butte and Wire  Sucess!

Came up from Georges Hollow to the living room then ascended to Red Butte. Followed the ridge to the top of Georges Hollow then up to the summit. Descended via the pioneer park route. Slippery descent. Very steep with loose rock. Overall an easy peak. Luckily it wasn't super hot today.

Big Beacon  Sucess!

Several times in the 1980's and 1990's, mostly late winter.

Mount Wire  Sucess!

Great mountain to climb in the heart of winter after a few days of snow melt. Encountered some snow towards the top that was easy to navigate and had been walked on plenty. Should have brought my microspikes but trekking poles were plenty. The view of the Salt Lake valley is pretty good.

Memorial Day  Sucess!

Dropped my mom off at the airport, and then headed up this mountain, then east along the ridge. Then down one of the ridges to emigration canyon and down the road back to my car. 10 miles in just under 2 hours.

Post Grandeur Climb for Cactus to Clouds  Sucess!

Ran & hiked up from the Zoo right after running up Grandeur Peak with my wife. Up in 44 minutes, down in 18. Super cold and windy with snow on the trail that I was sinking in to the top half. Climbed the tower and then got out of there so I didn't freeze! Training for the 10,000 ft vertical climb that is the Cactus to Clouds route of Mount San Jacinto!

My first  Sucess!

Climbed up 3 times. My first mountain when I was 5 years old. Really good views of Salt Lake City and the surrounding Wasatch!

Climb the tower at the top!  Sucess!

Great hike for beginners. I'm new to the SL area and it was just the right hike for getting acclimated to thinner air. The views of the ridge behind Wire were gorgeous and I'll be excited to run them one day.

My party and I were invited to climb up the old beacon tower at the summit. We shared stories of great hikes to do in the area. A favorite memory of my first few days in SLC.

Welcome to SLC!  Sucess!

My friend just moved to Salt Lake, and I'm trying my darnedest to get her acclimated quickly! Took her up to The Living Room and then we summited Mt Wire via George's Hollow. Met some fun transplants atop the beacon tower!

Via Red Butte  Sucess!

This was a great spring conditioning hike and appetizer for doing bigger stuff later on. Descended via Georges Hollow. I chickened out on climbing the tower (windy); will try again in the fall.

Reflectors gone!  Sucess!

Last year I hiked up the mountain while the reflectors were still there. Haven't been up since they were removed.

6/28/2014: Hiked up there again and took some pictures. The guys who removed the reflectors were very thorough; there isn't a single scrap of metal or any trace of the reflectors left!

In the dark  Sucess!

Gotta get these done before work. 12/26/13 with Broc, Nala and Miko.
01/03/15: Conditioning before work.
12/19/20 We used to pass out chocolates (individually wrapped, of course) to other hikers around this time of year and wish them a Merry Christmas but now hardly anyone will take one from us. In fact, the sad story is many will ignore our greetings and well wishes. What has Covid-19 really done to us as a society!!

And Red Butte on the way down

New to town and still without a car we decided to find a short hike that was easily accessible by bike. Parked at Natural History museum and went up George's Hollow to Mt. Wire first, then across the saddle to Red Butte and down to Living Room - glad we went this way - a little safer and more views from Red Butte. (

One note: I wish for every sign marking a crude oil pipeline they had one for the trails - we figured things out but if they really want to actually stop erosion, telling hikers where the real trails are would be a good start.

Overnight  Sucess!

After coming back from Kings peak I hiked up in the dark with a buddy and camped up for the night. Great views of the city down below.
