12/19/20 We used to pass out chocolates (individually wrapped, of course) to other hikers around this time of year and wish them a Merry Christmas but now hardly anyone will take one from us. In fact, the sad story is many will ignore our greetings and well wishes. What has Covid-19 really done to us as a society!!

And Red Butte on the way down
New to town and still without a car we decided to find a short hike that was easily accessible by bike. Parked at Natural History museum and went up George's Hollow to Mt. Wire first, then across the saddle to Red Butte and down to Living Room - glad we went this way - a little safer and more views from Red Butte. (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/370484605)
One note: I wish for every sign marking a crude oil pipeline they had one for the trails - we figured things out but if they really want to actually stop erosion, telling hikers where the real trails are would be a good start.

Overnight
After coming back from Kings peak I hiked up in the dark with a buddy and camped up for the night. Great views of the city down below.
After a 13-hour day, I grabbed some dinner at home, packed my pack full of 15 lbs of water, and headed on up. With nearly a full moon on my shoulder, the hike was quite the experience at 9pm. I managed to get to the top by 10 and return at 10:45. The trail was pretty steep in sections but completely empty. Awesome place!

Mount Wire
2/27/2014 From the Natural History Museum up the ridge to Red Butte and on to Mount Wire. Much more enjoyable route than the one from Pioneer Park.
3/29/2013 Climbed via the Pioneer Park trailhead. Up and back in an hour and a half. Did this and Little Black Mountain back to back, same day.

Fresh Snow
I have been wanting to get out and hike up to the Billboards for a long time. I always saw them on my many trips to the Zoo with my kids. I had plans this summer, but it was hot and miserable. So, with this fresh snow hitting the valley I thought I better give it a go. Coming from the Pioneer Park side or over by the Zoo, it got steep very quick. A constant view of my destination helped tremendously, slowly I made my way to the top. The views are well worth the hike.
While on top I of course visited the tower, checked out the benchmarks, and took several pictures. I took a slight breather and continued on to the living room area. I made it half way across and ran out of time, had to back track and start my way down the canyon. This is a great Loop trip and I look forward to my return for a better look at the living room. I might even drag the kids along with me for this one, I think they would have a ball.

Great short summit for fall, winter, and spring
Great peak for the winter.
One of my favorites when the weather is poor or don't have allot of time. Summit'ed several times.

Great first hike of the season
2nd ascent. First was in May 2010 - that time up the south-facing trail from near the Hogle Zoo. That was a tougher version of this hike - few switchbacks - more or less straight up a long upclimb.
This time, we took the long-ish way up and back down - came from the technology park/museum area and stopped at the living room on the way up. Came down across the ridge above the living room and scrambled back to it on the way down. Took us about 4.5 hours including about an hour's worth of stops and lunch. Great way to start the season and a good early-season hike.

Moonlight Hike
This was a great hike for after dark. It was steep but not treacherous. The Salt Lake Valley was pretty all lit up and we had fun finding landmarks from the top.

4 of us in the dark
Camilla, Mark, Brita and I went up in the dark. Moonlight was nice and we went the whole way up and down without the use of flashlights or headlamps. All 4 of us climbed to the top of the tower---fun stuff.

Early Morning Climb
I was in Salt Lake City for a business trip where I worked all daylight hours so I did this one in the dark. I loaded the course into my Forerunner and followed it to the top. I definitely had the mountain to myself.

5/4/2010 I used to come up here all the time, but now not so much. However, today I made it to the top 4 times for ascents 256-259.
2/22/2008 Didn't need snowshoes today. Finally some bare spots. Not a good refreeze so kind of muddy on the way down. Came up from across the zoo. This was my 233rd time up here since I started keeping track in 1998. In the winter I'm usually up here on a weekly basis. Got into a staring contest with a cow and calf moose on the way up and down. They won.

Hiked this one with Greg and Kadee (and Oquirrh the wonder dog). Smoggy down below but a great conditioning hike with 2100 feet of elevation to gain and we did the loop hike which made it a bit longer but more worthwhile.

Sorta lame but has a decent view and is really close to town. I actually had the peak all to myself unlike many other Utah peaks I've been on. Came up in the evening and watched a gorgeous sunset.
