Went from poineer park
Climbed it from pioneer park yesterday with by bros. Whoa, it was a killer! thank god it was so short and we were at the top in about an hour and half. the descent took about the same amount of time. overall it was an excellent (if somewhat steep) hike and amazing views.
gotta try Georges Hollow next time :)

Pioneer Park
i hiked this without snowshoes or crampons despite the recent heavy snow we had this week; it was totally fine UNTIL i got to the trees at the false summit; from there to the top was a big snowdrift and it was slow-going. i made it though.
my wife had a telescope on our deck and could see me at the reflectors, that was cool.
i'll be back for sure, it was super accessible and an awesome view.
Climbed several times. I go to pharmacy school at the U and sometimes have long breaks between classes, that's when you get really productive and go hiking! This and Mount Van Cott to the north are nice short hikes with easy access, for me. Especially enjoy them in the spring.

Route: via Red Butte in a blizzard
This is a very nice hike, and I bet the views would be fantastic but as it was I had 100 feet of visibility. I went up the ridge from Red Butte and came down Georges Hollow, which was a gorgeous fall/winter wonderland with an inch of brand-new snow dusting the pink, orange, and green leaves and the tiny Gambel oak canopy enclosing the trail.
Edited to add: I did this hike again by the same route under blue sky March 22, 2008.
Another update: In summer 2010 ran a 14.5 mile loop in 3:45 from Georges Hollow over this peak and to the end of the Emigration Canyon/Red Butte Canyon ridge, then down Emigration Canyon.

Route: Red Butte
Need to relax after a long day in the office. Headed up Red Butte and then moved on Mount Wire. Came down by way of Georges Hollow. Great early spring workout.

Route Climbed: Loop
I see this peak every day at school, so I decided to knock it off my list on a wonderfully warm March day. I went up the Georges Hollow trail, a very nasty mix of mud and slush. Went down the Pioneer Park route (goes between the beacons)- this route was clear of snow but VERY steep. Lovely hike with a nice burn in the legs.
I use this hike as a training run several times throughout the summer months. Sometimes I start from Red Butte Canyon and sometimes I start from Wakara Way (or whatever it's called). Steve The Dog loves this hike, too.

One of my favorite spring hikes in the Wasatch, free of snow early (esp. Pioneer Park route), kind of like a little Mt. Olympus. A wonderful half day (if even that long) hike.
