Nice page. Your pics of this peak are very helpful since I am one of those county highpointers who will be chasing this one down in a year or two.

It's an extremly easy one to hike but a bear to get to. Good camping near the trail head in case you don't want to drive from SLC all in one day. I got up around 5:00 am, did Eccentric and then drove to Hayden near Mirror Lake the same day.

Scott, what kind of mileage and effort would be involved in going from here to Kings / Gilbert? I thought you might be the right guy to ask this question to.

Thanks, great info. I'd love to do something like that next year.

A Northern approach, I should've thought of that! Awesome work for a county highpoint!

Highline Trail Start Alternate?

Thanks Scott for your development of this page! It is especially helpful as I am considering using Spirit Lake TH + Spirit Lake Route to Daggett Peak (and/or Eccentric) as a starting point for an East to West Highline Trail hike this year.

Compared to Chepeta Lake TH, Spirit Lake TH is about an hour closer (by car) to Salt Lake City and starting on the north slope would add a 12er summit and a few more miles to the hike. Surely others have tried it as an alternate to Leidy Peak TH/Chepeta Peak TH?

Road in good shape

Drove the Alternative "B" route from Roosevelt and returned via "A." In good weather, at least, either route is passable in a normal highway car. We were in our 4Runner, based on the route description on this page, but wished we'd taken the Mercedes sedan. No oil-pan bashing rocks on the route, at all. Apparently, the Forest Service has upgraded the road all the way to the Chepeta Lake dam.
