Mt. St. Helens from Goat Mt. summit (elev. 4965 ft.) on August 28, 2002. An avalanche in November 2001 filled in half of Blue Lake and washed out the road just beyond the trailhead. Thanks to the efforts of the forest service trail crew, the Blue Lake Trail has been cleaned up with a new foot bridge of rock across Coldsprings Creek and new signs that are visible again. The avalance originated on the west side of the mountain and entered the timber below.
