"My Highest Ones" - The "Seven Summits" downgraded
Also hooked on the "Seven Summits"? The highpoints of every continent? Not yet been on Mount Everest? Not even on Denali? And no chance ever standing on top of these? Too weak getting your arse off the sofa? You can be helped. Simply abandon the USUAL height spleen.
'Cause Everest is by no means automatically the highest mountain on Earth; it is only when you subscribe to the common, totally arbitrary convention that mountains' altitudes must be measured from sea level.
Measured from the center of the Earth, however, Chimborazo in Ecuador turns out highest, and he is even climbable for all those who really want. And Pico de Orizaba in Mexico becomes the highest North American, also "makeable" for those who cannot cope with Denali. And what about Everest? I see him fall back behind Carstensz Pyramid. Yes, Carstensz Pyramid is Asian! Indonesia is Asia.
See the new "Schaub list" of Seven Summits here:
The Schaub List of Seven Summits
All manageable for the average mountaineer! The conventional Seven Summits, propagated by Richard Bass in 1986 and later highlighted in a modified form by Reinhold Messner, are thus converted quite comfortably to a much more "humane" endeavour.
And, by the way, even THIS list is already outdated. As the catastrophy movie "2012" suggests, the South African Drakensberge are now the highest mountains of Earth! So you better climb Thabana Ntlenyana in Lesotho, before it's too late for you to climb anything at all.
