March 12
Kessler, Shaylee, and I started late from the trailhead (1:30 PM) and snowshoed up to the Polar Star Hut. It was snowing much of the time and the snow was very wet, which soaked everything. We made it to the hut in a relatively fast four hours.
March 13
We awoke to 16F and clear skies and decided that it was a good day to climb New York Mountain. We broke trail to timberline, at which point it was breezy and cold. We went over the big false summit and then followed the steep and sometimes rocky ridge to the true summit. Along the ridge, there were some monster cornices to stay away from.
The views were really great, but the climb took us much longer than expected. After a short break, we headed back down to Polar Star. After that we packed up and headed down, but we missed to turnoff for the shortest route, so we took a slightly longer route down. We were tired by the time we reached the vehicle.
It was a good trip.
