Newly Found Cave

Newly Found Cave

"Geez, I wonder if there's any "bat guano" in there ???" I peeked into a cave. On the computer, I clicked on SAVE. This cave was here for a very long while, Even before man was here to cast his smile. (Woman was here, too. What do you think man was smiling at, for crying out loud! ????) Calcium carbonate is alive and well! Cave exploring can be so swell !!! But, be careful where you place your hand, 'Cause scorpions & rattlesnakes inhabit this arid land. Poem & photo by lcarreau on (04/03/2009) A Word About Bats: It's important for people to remember that bats are wild animals (flying mammals) and should be allowed to live in their natural environments. In fact, it's illegal in many countries to have a bat as a pet. Bats that can be caught are most likely sick and they should NOT be handled. The smallest bat lives in Thailand and is called the bumblebee bat (Craseonycteris thonglongyai). This insectivorous bat has a wingspan of only 6 inches and weighs less than a copper penny. Re: Batty Question LOL

The lynx are beautiful animals, but are you
having problems associated with the transmittal of rabies (diseases) between
various species of canine and feline ???

There seems to be a "rabies epidemic" here in AZ. Do bats transmit rabies ??

Re: Batty Question LOL

We're used to having the problem, the dogs/foxes but also cats or squirells can be a real threat. As for the bats, especially Eptesicus serotinus is vulnerable but the infected bats - as they say here on the non-English web - tend to be languid (may be lying on the cave floor, their wings spread) rather than aggressive, so they're unlikely to pass the virus into you unless you touch them.

Re: Batty Question LOL

Yes, I enjoyed the "old school batman" much
better than the new modern 'batman.'
