The route report mentions that no ice screw is necessary, but we used a screw (as well as a picket) to set up a running belay. While it isn't "necessary" we certainly enjoyed it for the steeper section, as did the other teams on the climb that day. I also noticed -- in the text of another user's photos -- that other climbers used ice screws on the climb.
