Norris Geyser Basin

Norris Geyser Basin

Back Basin in Norris. This is the famous Steamboat Geyser. When active, it is the tallest geyser in the world playing to nearly 400 feet. Unfortunatly, Steamboat can go as few as 2 days or as many as 50 years between eruptions. The major eruptions must be truly awesome to behold. Rumor has it that on a clear, cold and windless day in winter years ago, the eruption of this geyser was heard in Madison Junction.....a full 14 miles away!
