Trail and Road Conditions
Climbed the peak a couple days ago with my wife Sara and good friend, Chase. We found the dirt road by Peterson Station and were able to drive in 2.7 miles to a small parking area on the left. The road makes a number of turns and passes through a few
fence openings before straightening out into the canyon. I think almost any car could make it to where we parked but high clearance would be nice.
Shortly after our parking spot you will encounter a ditch and small stream crossing that our SUV wouldn't have been able to handle. A jeep or good 4x4 could make it, I think. If you can make it past that obstacle you will probably be able to drive another 2 miles before significant tree falls will stop anything on four wheels.
Round trip from where we parked the hike was 9.8 miles with 3700 feet of vertical gain. The last 1.5 miles are steep!

Via Petersen Creek
Ken, Dennis and I drove up to almost the end of the Petersen Creek (Canyon) road and while it is a very brushy and rough road, we made it in my Tacoma and Ken's 4runner. Nice straightforward hike to the summit but we needed to get down as thunderstorms were predicted for the afternoon.

Trees in the road
There are some trees in the road, so we had to start close to the beginning of the canyon. It was still a great climb. Going when there is snow on the mountain makes it easier to get over all of the boulders.

Beautiful Peak
Climbed from Peterson Creek, dodging lightning bolts most of the way up. The climb itself is very uncomplicated. Just walk up the steep NW ridge of the mountain from the end of the road. The road itself is a challenge however. Lots of car scratching brush in the lower sections, trees down across the road in the upper section. It definitely requires a high clearance vehicle. I finally gave up and walked the last 2 miles to the base of the mountain. There are many good campsites in the canyon, especially in the very fine aspen groves. The wildflower display was outrageous and kept me busy with my camera. Lots of Limber pine on the upper slopes. The view from the summit is sublime.
I climbed this peak at a young age with my father and sister. One of the best desert peaks in central Nevada and quite a desert vista. Don't dismiss these desert peaks; they are some the most remote and rewarding mountains to climb. It's easy to find isolation.

Hiked this peak in the afternoon with ScottyS. In the morning we hiked Desatoya Twins, hopped in the car and drove for an hour or so, and hiked North Shoshone . It would be a shame to drive all that way for only one peak...
