North Side of Hood

North Side of Hood

Taken in the late afternoon from where I made camp, just below Barrett Spur. There was a small windblock with enough room for one bivy sack...fortunately, that's all I brought. Temps were warm until the sun went down; not at all typical of late October at 7300'. October 27, 2008

The north face

of ANY mountain is a very cold and unforgiving
thing to behold.

Wonder what happened to the weather pattern -
it seems to have "skirted" the western half of
the US. Oh well, get out the sunblock.

Re: The north face

I think I may have been the last one to stand on bare ground on Barrett Spur this year...the snows should be moving in tonight or tomorrow and that will be it for the year. There really isn't a better view of the north face of Hood than from here, though...one of those places that a photo could never do justice to.

Seems like

this could be useful beta for attempting the Cathedral Ridge route, something I plan to do within roughly the next year via the Top Spur TH. Any additional knowledge about that route is greatly appreciated. Awesome photo by the way!
