Loop hike to saddle, then west to Black Rock Mountain, back to saddle and up to North Yolla Bolly summit. Shortcut down north ridge back to trail. 9.8 miles
Last peak of a long day tagging P2Ks and Wilderness Highpoints in the area. Bully Choop, Hayfork Bally, Black Lassic, Signal Peak, North Fork Wilderness Highpoint, & North Yolla Bolly.

Pre-Thanksgiving Fun
My friend Aaron and I made the drive from south Redding to North Yolla Bolly the day before Thanksgiving. There was about an inch of snow in most places above 7000 feet. The drive there and back was longer than the hike, but both were great fun. The rock formations and views near the top were outstanding. We were fortunate that there had not been much snow so far this season, allowing for easy access and an easy hike.
got delayed on the descent due to lightning on the pass. ran from one batch of small trees to the other in hopes it would strike the taller clumps. hell of a show from camp!

Beautiful area
Fun little hike with some snowfields. Quite a drive from San Francisco.
Another beautiful day (& peak) in the Klamaths! Got there late, having come up from Ave of the Giants & the Founders Grove @ Humboldt Redwoods SP. Left TH @ 18.10. After encountering snow @ ~7,000 ft, took off up a drainage, making sure to note where I last left the trail.
Went over a fair amount of snow before reaching the actual face. It being well on the way to dusk, I ditched my backpack (~60lb? w/ all of my stuff) at the base of the face & just continued onward w/ my jacket, headlamp, & camera. Encountered some fun class 3/4 chutes before summiting @ 20.15. Clouds about to envelop the mountain below (as well as all of my gear), I left @ 20.21 (couldn't get the massive summit register that seemed to be welded shut open, unfortunately).
Fortunately, clouds did not persist, & I found my bag & trail by darkness. Found a fairly flat place to bivy for the night. Returned to the TH ~9.00 the next morn. Great time in the Yolla Bolly Wilderness, a wonderful place.
