My husband and I started the climb at 6:30 a.m. It wasn't too bad at first, but the higher we went, the more difficult it was. We finally made it to the top, didn't have a pen to sign the register, the dog cut his foot on a rock, it was snowing and we ran out of water. It is very rocky at the top. We had planned to summit Tebeguache on the same day, but due to our mishaps, we decided to save Tebeguache for another day.
Looked like storms were coming and the forecast called for it but we got lucky and finished em both in 6 1/2 hours car to car.
Via Blank Gulch. Here I am in this jungle again. Guess who magically appears at the top? My fantasy lover mountain man...you gotta watch this guy...he's sneaky.
Couldn't get over to Tab...weird clouds and tired friends.
Did Tab & Shav via Blank Gulch, Weather kept hinting on rain, then hinting on sun... then then then then....
Anyways. Made both summits, Good day
I'm really not THAT sneaky..... or am I? (Grin)
Summitted with 22 Boy Scouts and 9 adults on a beautiful but long day.
Climbed along with Tabeguache, camped at the trailhead where the cows kept us awake mooing all night.
freak May storm soaked us and drained us.
Quite a steep ascent, but all good. A nice trail, on a nice day. Slightly bummed that the angel was melted out already due to the hot weather. Blank Gulch TH has been improved lately, so probably for that reason is a lower start in elevation than in the GR book. Be prepared for close to 6,000 vert for the Shavano/Tab combo!
Great day, did Tabeguache too. Car to car 5 hours 35 min
Two for the price of one!
E slopes a very easy route. Unable to summit Tabegauche due to early storms.
Made the summit solo since my daughter had to turn back with a sore ankle. Will be back in two weeks to do it again with some Boy Scouts.
re-climbed the angel snowfield and shavano on my way to tabeguache. this glissade is still the best i've ever done. 1200 feet in one push.
Headed up from Blank Gulch. Easy climb despite not having climber's legs.
When we began the mountains were covered by clouds. We broke out the Shavano saddle to look over a white world pierced only by high mountain peaks. What a sight! By the time we reached the Shavano summit, all the couds had burned off for a great view in all directions.
My first fourteener back in 84. Great hike.
Hiked from Blank Gulch along with Tabeguache. With Mic and Kalet. Twisted ankle on summit and wasn't able to do much the next day.
October 20, 2007: From Jones Peak, 13712 & Tabeguache Peak. En route to "Esprit Point". 7:45 roundtrip.
May 29, 2006: En route to Tabeguache Peak and "Esprit Point". Climbed with crzyjt.
Summited a sluggish 4 and a half hours after leaving my car. Found my second wind on the ridge to Tabeguache. Saw a male mountain goat crossing the "angel of shavano" route. The angel is disappearing fast and I avoided it. I wish I hadnt! Several climbers got up it without post-holing. Beautiful weather and little snow. The summit was crawling with marmots..watch your food.
Saw a herd of female bighorn sheep - summited Tabeguache and had beautiful weather.
