A nice late season dayhike. This was a nice climb, and one can even spice it up with some class 3 just below the summit ridge. Contrary to what Secor says, it is perfectly reasonable (class 2) to head for the low point of the saddle just before the small tarn at the base of the East Slope. Trip report.
Nine hours r/t with Rahil, Pete and Reza. Followed use trail from SE, gained saddle on left side (steep & loose) and traversed across to NE face.
Up the switch backed short cut across from Pine Grove Campground. Climb came in at 16 miles, even with the short cut (and I contoured around the place where the trail dropped down and came back up near Patricia Peak's north ridge). Beautiful day.
From camp at Hilton Lake #5. Very scenic through the upper drainage area.
Easy scramble from Stanford Col. Large boulder field must be crossed above Steelhead Lake, but not too bad. Stanford Col is very loose. Solo.
...via Hilton Lakes. Complicated route finding. Climbed, by mistake, peak T-12931 first, then to (lower) Mt. Stanford. Very few visitors per year. A whole day affair. Trip report.
Sierra Challenge day starting with memorial for Pat Hadley on Patricia Peak. Then joined JD and Luke on standard circuit of Stanford (N) and Morgan (N).
Tried using all short-cuts from trail at Pine Cove Campground. Too many f'ing trees!! Enjoyed all the rock once over tree line; stayed high over the lakes and traversed on boukders, no trail. Cold windy summit!
I made it on my second try. The year before, had issues with altitude sickness.
made it back to bag this one
Combined with Mt Morgan N. A long day hike!
Started at Pine Grove TH with AJ at 6AM and summitted some time before noon. Windy summit break then on to Morgan.
Tagged the summit, had a quick lunch, and traversed the ridge over to Morgan with xav
Ran up there with the dog one morning. The register was gone, so I replaced it with one that Barbara Lilley donated.
Tagged both Stanford peaks and all peaks on the ridge to Morgan. Shortcuts described by Lincoln work.
Nice ridge traverse to Morgan. Trip Report
Up from the lake to Hilton Creek Lakes and then Mount Stanford. Followed the ridge to the highpoint west of Mount Morgan, then Morgan and down a sandy chute to Davis Lake.
Nice hike up a scenic drainage to Mt. Stanford. Traversed the ridge to Mt. Morgan afterwards and made a loop back to Rock Creek Lake.
It was the day before the start of Burd's 2012 Sierra Challenge and I wanted an easy hike at altitude to acclimate. My son was camped with a group at Hilton Creek Lakes so I decided to check up on him and also scope out the trail to Stanford North -- wound up writing the page on it. I guess I have to go back and actually climb the thing now.
