Mount Namuli

Is Namuli really the 2nd highest in Mz? I have a feeling it is in the inaccessiable NW of Niassa, near Lupiliche.

I would also say that this should only be climbed in the dry season. I was told that it is too slippery even for the locals in the wet season. We did it 2May, and the first person of 2009 did it on 1May!

We drove to Mugunha sede. The bridges for the later part are all repaired. I would say it is a moderate to easy 4x4 trail. The more difficult part is the initial climb out of the garue valley. The remaining 30km is easy. It took us 2.5 hours. I would say that it is definately better to walk and enjoy the scenary if you have the time, but it is a pretty gruelling 3 day trip. Just climbing the mountain was tiring enough for me, and I'm not in such bad shape!

I think you could probably do find the road without a guide, however the real use for the guide is as an interpretor, as the locals only really speak elonwe. I was lucky to be with an ex-World vision guy who had worked in the area, knew the way. Most locals in Gurue don't!

The Queen asked for 400Mtn for the climb for her party and suggested we took two guides. We said one was sufficient, both of her sons came anyway for the price of one(200Mtn). It was worth it for our party of 4 as some areas of the scamble are quite harey, and we needed some help to get our footing.

The request list was for flour, sugar, and rice as well as cash. We brought along a coule of beers, which seemed to suffice though after the climb they asked for sugar, which we bought at the hut store about 100m below the Queens place.

I would say the climb takes about 4 hours, moderately fit people, stopping quite often, and then 2.25hours to descend.
