At about 6,000 feet the trail enters a large park-like stand of old growth mountain hemlock. Most of these trees are probably between 200 and 250 years in age. This portion of the trail is fairly new and is located in a place other than what is shown on the USGS quads. Refer to the Getting There section of the page for the explanation. August 2006
