Old Man of the Forest

Old Man of the Forest

You're probably wondering, what forest? Well, this image was shot in Petrified Forest National Park, AZ, not far from an overlook on the main road that offers a great view of a terrain littered with tons of petrified wood. The petrified wood, of course, comes from a rain forest that existed in this area 225 million years ago. I haven't run across any "official" recognition of the old man's existence, perhaps because the best view is obtained by walking out past the park signs saying to not go any further (but, really, only a very few feet past). Imaged in December 2009.

Hey Mark...

Did you see the exhibits at Rainbow Forest?

Actually, this area WAS once a lush green forest teaming with life, way back in geologic time.

Re: Hey Mark...

Yep. I figured I'd let the reader deduce that the petrified wood came from a prior forest. Maybe I'll edit that caption to make it clearer. :-) Thanks for looking and commenting! --mark d.

Re: Hey Mark...

Not a problem. I just figured that some readers might be drinking too much eggnog,
and not see the connection. : ))
