Ominous Weather - The view from Mt. Crawford

This was taken on Saturday, May 27, 2006. The day was actually very pleasent, aside from the humidity. The black flies were not out in force but made their presence known. We reached the summit exactly at noon under a cloudless blue sky. The only weather we noted was a persistant fog clinging to the Presidential Ridge. Mount Washingon was completely fogged over, and the cloud extended to Adams to the north, and Eisenhower to the south. Mount Pierce was in the clear, and the whole of the Webster-Jackson ridge was visible. As we enjoyed the sunshine and lunch, the wind changed very suddenly. Within a few moments, the sky looked like this. We began to gather our gear to hurry back down to tree line, when the wind shifted again, and blew the clouds away. It was one of those moments that makes the White Mountains so typically unpredictable. All in all it was a beautiful day.
