Osprey on a Mexican beach

Osprey on a Mexican beach

This young one snagged a fish just offshore, couldn't take off with his prey and ended up swimming to shore. Seemed like his his talon was stuck in the fish preventing him from taking off. He stayed on the beach for a long time trying to dry off and lose the fish. Someone walked too close and he fled into the water, crashed into a wave which apparently freed him of the fish and allowed him to take wing. We could only assume that he lived happily ever after....

Mean-looking bird ...

We have these in the mountains of Arizona in the summer. They swoop down out of the pines
and snatch fish out of the water, thus the
nickname "Fish Eagle."

Hope this Fish Eagle found greener pastures.

Re: Ospreys

Appears to be the same species-2nd most widley distributed raptor species with the Peregrine Falcon being the most widely distributed.
