Overlooking the Saint Mary Valley...

A couple-three miles south of St. Mary brings this view to hand. Highest peak at center is Red Eagle Mountain (8881'), then snow-covered Little Chief (9541'), with Citadel Mountain (9030') pretty much hidden behind the tree. Pointed, snow-covered peak further right is Fusillade Mountain (8750'), which is not far from the Logan Pass area, and an indicator of the snow volume with which the plows were dealing while working towards Logan Pass. The burn is a result of the 2006 Red Eagle Fire which came very, very close to destroying St. Mary. Photo by Vernon, June 24, 2008.

(If you are interested, there is a great deal of information about the Red Eagle Fire, including links to some stunning NFS pictures, on the Divide Mountain page.)
