Winter fun

Jon, it looks like you are getting in some nice winter climbs there in Colorado. Is the snow pack less than normal this year and what kind of backcountry gear do you use? Snowshoes / skis ? Just curious.

Actualy Quandary Peak is only my first mountain of 2004 so I am running a little behind schedule :) Indeed Colorado has had a spell of high pressure making for some pleasant winter fun. The central mountains haven't been getting as much snow as they need... on my ascent of Quandary I carried snowshoes the whole way but never needed them. The snow was well consolidated and quite windblown. It was the most perfect day I have witnessed on a mountaintop in January.
