Paeonia brownii

This beautiful early-blooming herbaceous Peony occurs throughout much of the Tahoe Basin. It prefers relatively dry, partially-shaded Jeffrey Pine forest. The seed pods are huge on this plant and the ripe seeds look like large pieces of brown corn. June 5, 2007
