Pagoda Dogwood

Pagoda Dogwood

The dogwoods are generally opposite leaved but here is one of two exceptions. The so called Pagoda Dogwood or Cornus Alternifolia of the eastern states and its cousin not shown Cornus Contraversa of Japan and China have leaves in an alternating pattern and their branches have a more layered effect than the better known Cornus Florida, Nuttalli and Kousa. Pagoda Dogwoods are up to 25 feet tall and often multi stemmed.
