2nd State High Point  Sucess!

Drove up during my stay in Boulder, CO. I had never really been in the true Great Plains, so this visit was pretty interesting to me. Mostly cloudy conditions, temperature was about 45 F at 4 PM when I reached the top. A snow mound blocked the entrance to the dirt road, so I ran to the top in 10 minutes. Did a backflip off the register thing, prossibly the highest backflip ever done in the state of NE, unless someone else has done a backflip at that spot. The scenery out there made me think of the movie "Fargo". ;) Fun trip

Beauty is in Eye of Beholder  Sucess!

First state highpoint, decided to make a special trip from mid-state to bag my home state's first. Unfortunately, I was not a purist and drove to the "summit."

Clear day, watched the sun set over Rockies foothills in distant West - just barely visible. Saw a few bison below. Signed register and lingered. It's a beautiful, rugged, underappreciated landscape.

Tornadoes!  Sucess!

Drive and 'hike' were the easy parts. Tornado warnings everywhere, ugly sky... scary!

Panorama Point  Sucess!

Drove across Wyoming after climbing Kings Peak in Utah. A tornado touched down a few miles in front of us as we drove. Drove to the top just before dark with son Ryan. Signed the register and left in search of a motel and a good meal. Stayed in Pine Bluffs, WY and then headed for Mount Elbert, CO. HP #19.

Highpoint 11  Sucess!

1 am summit was awesome. Way cooler at night to drive the dirt roads with no clue where youre going and be on the bison fields with no clue where the bison are

I drove to the summit, following the excellent directions from this website. The farm roads are all in excellent shape- wide and not too bumpy, but you can not drive too fast. I got a certifiacte from the Chamber of Commerce in Kimball certifying that I visited the highest point in Nebraska. Kim, in the office, is a very nice and welcoming lady. I love the people of Nebraska.

No one around for miles! Very peaceful and very green. Windy with the threat of a storm. Earlier rain made the road too muddy to drive so a quick jog to the marker and back helped me stretch my legs after driving down from climbing Harney Peak in South Dakota. Lovely!

I thought this highpoint was awesome. It was a very beautiful still evening when we visited. Amazingly quiet. It felt like we were the only people around for miles. Wouldn't want to be out there in a storm though.

Have lived just 45 minutes from this high point for 6 months and just finally stopped by. There was a herd of antelope running off as I reached the top, in addition the the ever preasent buffalo. Glad I made it here and only 46 more to go!

This one gets dogged at times, but I liked it. The view was good (especially the distant Rocky Mountains to the SW). The buffalo were interesting. Finally, there's something humbling about these Plains Highpoints. They seem so remote, that I get a real sense of gloom and reverence from them. Must be the wind.

I actually got my car stuck in the mud on the approach road on this one :-). The rain stopped and we were greeted with a really nice rainbow... so I guess the 2 hour diversion and the "climb" was worth it.
