Panty Prow, 5.6, my first route in Red Rock and first time climbing sandstone.
Great wall for beginners such as myself. Practiced leading on Panty Wall. Took a moment to get used to sandstone after typically climbing granite. Great day, gorgeous views, warm but not hot weather. Will be back Thanksgiving week.
Classic must do. Practiced my leading skills here.
We climbed here on my first day of rock climbing at Red Rock, what a treat after southeastern Pennsylvania rock. With a great set of 5.7 and .8's in a row, I led a few and toproped another. My best day climbing so far.
Great place for some laid back sport climbing. TRed some of the harder routes and wanted to lead some of the 10a trad routes, but I just couldn't bring myself to trust the gear placements in thin sandstone. It's hard to be confident on thin sandstone placements when you've learned on solid granite. Weak of me, I know.
We climbed at Panty Wall twice, various routes. Very enjoyable!
Great climb! Spent the whole day doing the various routes, the views of Red Rocks are beautiful.
Got skunked on Eagle Dance by snow and ice, backed off into Calico after long hike. Man is this wall popular! 20,000 young Canadians up there on the 5.7-8's, no doubt all fit in the same van on the way down. Counted 5 brand new ropes! Regular MEC store going on. Panty Raid is alright, was not impressed with the pro. Have to edge your nuts out front on lips of varnish that I don't trust 100%. Not all warm and fuzzy. The moves were fun though. Nothing else up there in my range worth doing.
