Amazing July 4th!  Sucess!

Hiked up there on an attempt of the CDT, slept in the box on top. I was proud to be an American in America :).

Didn't see anybody else that evening. Glorious.

Parkview Mountain  Sucess!

July 5 2023

After work I climbed Parkview Mountain. I drove the road part way to the cirque and walked the rest of the way. I made the mistake of climbing the north side of the cirque, which was a miserable route up to the ridge. Once I reached the ridge, the route was easy and I climbed to the summit. I descended the ridge to the south of the cirque, which was a much better route even though it had quite a bit of snow. I just missed a big storm and had good weather the entire time of the climb, though it was very windy.

June 4 2009

Today our project was shut down early because of fear of the weather forecast and I thought it would be a good day to take half a day off work and climb Parkview Mountain on my way to take some pictures of a project. I climbed the NE Ridge of the mountain from near Willow Creek Pass and was near 11,000 feet at the mine and cirque before getting a phone call saying that I was needed in Granby. The weather was perfect. Frustrated and none too happy, I turned around and headed back down the mountain and back to work.

June 6 2003

I climbed the peak during bad weather and a June snowstorm. The project I was working on was shut down for bad weather. It would be nice to have some views from the summit of the peak as I have now climbed it twice during bad weather and little to no visibility!

March 5 2003

Climbed Parkview solo and in a blizzard. Challenging conditions!

Neat highpoint of the Rabbit Ears Range  Sucess!

A neat mountain. In one of the few east to west trending ranges in Colorado. The first snowfall of the season graced the upper slopes. Fire Lookout was nice. Graffiti there was not. Beautiful day.

Northeast Ridge  Sucess!

I combined this with a trip to the Arapahoe Wildlife Refuge in North Park. The views were fantastic and the other peaks in the area made me want to return some day.

Snowshoes would've been nice

4-wheeled up Mulstay Creek Rd as far as we could(about a mile and a half from the highway)then hiked another 2 and a half before postholing-out in a snow squall at about 10,800'. Maybe just as well as the weather got progressively worse on the mountain.
Mucho snow from about 9,600. Will try again in June or July.

This is a gentle giant of a mountain. Very beautiful and secluded. There is something of a surprise on top at the end of the curvaceous summit ridgeline.

Fred showed off his thesis area to me, so we explored the area for several days. Spent our honeymoon here, too, in 1973. (awwww......) :-)

Route Climbed: Many Date Climbed: 1972

The geology and mineralization of Parkview Mountain was the subject of my Masters Thesis at Colorado State University.

In the course of my mapping and sampling, I climbed every ridge and every cirque wall on the mountain - many several times. I did not even keep track of how many times I visited the summit. I spent four or five nights on the summit in the old lookout while mapping on the west and southwest sides of the peak.

I was normally alone, but on several occasions had other geologists with me. In the fall when all was finished Moni joined me for a climb of the East Ridge.
