Pawnee Buttes

Pawnee Buttes

The 3 old bars we rappelled off of. It was very scary as they flexed visibly but we felt they were probably deeper than the nails we drove. Noah rappelled with a backup from our nails and then I cleaned and rappelled just on these. Thankfully they held!

Nice pictures!

I've always wondered about the Pawnees
Is it really technical climbing to get up there? I just never imagined they would be that difficult to climb up.

Re: Nice pictures!

The east butte is climbed on a fairly regular basis via some 5.0 steps carved up the side. The west butte hasn't seen an ascent in 42 years. It goes at approximately 5.6X A4+ and is very dangerous. We both agreed it would be impossible to free climb. Any fall would be to ground and every aid placement is definitely body-weight only. A fall from the top of the wall would be about 80 feet.
