Traverse from Crystal
Beautiful fall day. I was amazed how green the Crystal Lakes basin still was for late September. A dusting of snow also covered parts of the mountains.
Nice loop hike. The ridge to Father Dyer was the best part, but coming down off of Father Dyer was tedious. Had the dog with me - otherwise I probably would have come back over Mt Helen. (class3 ridge, I hear.)

From Lower Crystal Lake
We intended to make a loop including Peak 9, but the weather wasn't too friendly, so we took the weather window we had and made the most of it. Strong winds, snow, low visability...but we made the summit and took some "we miss you!" pictures for Janet in Thailand. Partners: Carol, Elissa & Laraine.

East Ridge
Peaks 10's east ridge route was a little more serious than I'd anticipated in winter. There were a couple of short sections exposed to avalanche danger but luckily conditions were very good. The final short section before the summit was the most interesting.

stormy east ridge
hiked the east ridge on a stormy january day. final section of the ridge was thrilling and solid enough to force me to kick steps! could have done without the wind blowing in our faces during the ascent, oh well.
Over from Peak Nine and up the talus slope on the north face, which had some new snow that helped to hold the shifty rocks in place, then down the east ridge and road, and onto the ski slopes.
Took me and my group about twelve and a half hours total to get from the trailhead in Frisco to the Breck Brewery, on a steady but never hurried pace. I didn't notice anyone else up on top of the range all day long.
A great way to punctuate the summer hiking season.
Combined with East Ridge of Father Dyer and Crystal Peak.

Tenmile Traverse
Last peak of the Tenmile Traverse. Summited in sketchy weather at 2 p.m., exactly 9 hrs after leaving the car in Frisco.
Also climbed on 9/27/07 with friends from Blue River. Three of us climbed Crystal from Spruce Creek, then 2 of us went on to Peak 10 and 9 while the other guy drove up from Breck to pick us up at the Pk. 9 restaurant. A nice tour de 10.

No Trail: Straight Up The Ridges
Started 11am on foot from the doors of the Great Divide lodge at around 10300ft, and went straight up the peak 10 runs and series of ridges all the way to the top. The ridges can be fairly steep and lengthy at times. Stopped for suntanning on one of the magnificent alpine meadows on the way up. No trails up the ridges until near the top. Arrived at the summit about 4pm, and then realized what I had just done! All alone at the very small pyramidal top of a fairly high mountain. On top of that, after I got comfortable with being up there, I spied the ridge to Crystal peak and the very beautiful upper Crystal lakes. Well, one only lives once, so off I went. Didn't make it to the summit of Crystal peak fortunately, common sense overcame me. Made it back down to town about 10pm on a moonless night, after leaving the lakes trail to get back to the lodge quicker. Problem is that I had to cut straight through unchartered forest. With no light to boot, makes for interesting situations. Luckily I have a very good sense of direction, and came out of the forest right at the edge of the ski area. A very invigorating trip...
Made it here starting from Mt Helen. Got myself pretty dehydrated during the scramble between Helen and Father Dyer, so I was really worn out by the time I got here. Stuck around long enough to scope a skinnable route up Pk 9 for a winter adventure.

East ridge from Spruce Creek TH
An easy ridge was made more difficult by an interesting ridge of snow just below the summit. There was still a lot of snow up there in late April. Awesome views from the summit.
