A helluva lot of snow still in the backcountry. I didn't have any snow equip with me. But V2 proved to be a great contingency prize.

from Island Lake
I think much better route from Island Lake compared to Clear Lake. There is actually a small trail all the way to the summit. The trail goes on Hard Rock 100 mile endurance run course. Incredible views, especially down onto Island Lake.
It took us only 2 hrs from the car TH to the summit!

Island Lake
Fun day climbing US Grant, then saddled to V4, and finished the day on V2.

1st: Loop of "V4", US Grant and "V2" with Steve; 5/28/12. Great Memorial Day climb, and a cool "tour de Island Lake".
2nd: With Rachael, just V2 this time via the west ridge; 5/27/18. Looked at adding Grant, but from below the summit gully looked choked with snow so we decided to head back down rather than get turned around when we go there.

From Island Lake
Completed on the first day of a 2 night backpack into Ice Lake Basin. For a Sunday on a holiday weekend I was surprised at the lack of foot traffic. From Island Lake we had the place to ourselves so if you are looking for a peak without a lot of crowds definitely a place to hit. The view from the summit is incredible.

2nd of San Juan Sweetness 2011
Quick jaunt up from lower ice lake basin with a delightful first look at Island Lake. Should have done V4 and US Grant but figured I would need an excuse to return to this amazing corner of Colorado.

From Island Lake
SE ridge to "V4" (UN 13,540), on to US Grant, and then traverse to "V2" (UN 13,309). An awesome loop! Island Lake is a must see place.

Not bad - A little off course
Scree was only helpful on the way down - one quick decent. The register on top had only one set of signitures and that was from Jennifer and Gerry Roach. My party signed - hoped to rename the peak "Godlister Peak" - and headed home. Done in early Spring - VERY wet. Water crossing very deep but manageable. Beautiful view.

Nice moderate snow up from Island Lake! The lakes were still frozen when I went, the register said someone swam across Clear Lake last August, Brrrrrrrr.

From GrantHiked up this guy to tag it before heading down from Grant. Lots of smoke in the air from multiple wild fires.
With Regina Thomas.
