Pelée Wildflowers

Pelée Wildflowers

These spectacular flowers brighten the upper north and west-facing slopes of Montagne Pelée, around 1100 or 1200 meters. Apart from some superficial resemblance, they don't seem to be ordinary ginger (alpinia), but I haven't been able to figure out what they actually are. This particular group is at the western opening of the caldera.
