190 km. wide panorama of the Alps from the terrace of the Swiss Federal Institute of Sports at Magglingen (Macolin), above Biel (Bienne). Taken by Daniel Schaller late in the afternoon of Jan. 27, 2004 as a series of separate images, later stitched together. The building was originally the Grand Hotel de Macolin, which was built at this location with this terrace just to take advantage of this view, a Grand Hotel for a grand view. Mr. Schaller states that this picture is free of copyright, and so can be reproduced freely. The names of the 71 summits were supplied by Jonathan de Ferranti at www.viewfinderpanoramas.org. Me, I just took the photo and the plot of mountain names and combined them together, an example of Internet collaboration, also free of copyright. Complete photo is 2.3 meters wide (91 inches). Most practical way to print it may be to divide it up into 9 sections, print the 9 sections out on any home inkjet printer (photo paper looks best), and then trim the sections and tape them together on the back to get the complete panorama.
