Interesting pictureThis is an interesting picture, because it does allow to see one of the hidden features of the Grandes Jorasses - the depression at the top of the left flank of the Walker spur, basically an enormous funnel that ends a couloir that "jump" on the Linceul above the top of the third ramp of the Gousseault route.
Seen from the Leschaux glacier, the perspective make the top of Walker spur looking far more flat of what really is. In fact, it's shaped as an immense prow, and the dimensions of the upper part (the one you see here below the summit) are mind-boggling: just from the Linceul to the crest of the Walker spur there's 550m. of height difference. The "crag" betwen the Linceul and the ramp of the Gousseault route (on the vertical of the blue helmet of the climber) is 200m high and overhanging!!!
